    China Nicaragua INTA-PMA Bioinsumos

    Country Project;Bio-fertilizer;INTA;WFP China COE;Nicaragua

    Background

The development of Bio-fertilizer for better use of natural resources while reducing the degree of use chemical fertilizers is one of the key objectives of Nicaragua’s agricultural sector. Through WFP China Center of Excellence, this project foresees the exchange of experiences with an expert from China on the production of organic biological inputs for basic grains and vegetable crops. It will be oriented to INTA's technical staff, who will then replicate the knowledge with farmers. INTA is particularly interested in knowledge about alternative techniques and methodologies that could enrich with more nutrients the organic biological inputs that INTA already produces and promotes, for higher profitability, better quality, and greater innovation. The expert could also help identify strategies to bring organic input production to scale. For the purpose of transferring Chinese technologies in this technical aspect, two webinars were designed, one in general biofertilizer and the other in seaweed-based bio-fertilizer. An expert in this field was recommended by China COE for the two webinars.

    Objective:

To share the experience from the People’s Republic of China on the production and use of organic biological inputs on staple grains (beans, rice, maize) and vegetable crops (tomato, sweet chili, potato, onions) including seaweed production and use as biological inputs:

? How to fortify with more nutrients the organic biological inputs that INTA already produces, to better nourish the soil?  Focus on grains: beans, rice, maize.

? What new formulae can be produced locally and promoted with small-scale farmers.
